About RACE ON THE BASE

The Southland Credit Union 31st Annual Los Alamitos Race on the Base will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2012. The City of Los Alamitos, the California National Guard and the Cancer Support Foundation are happy to invite you to participate in the community event. Approximately 6,000 participants, spectators and volunteers attended the last event. The race is held on the run ways at the Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos and features helicopters, planes and military vehicles with music throughout the course.

All proceeds will benefit the USA Water Polo National Aquatic Center at the Joint Forces Training Base. The 5K Walk is co-hosted by the Cancer Support Foundation and a portion of the proceeds, generated from the 5K Walk and through race registration, is donated to the organization. The Race on the Base features something for everyone!

Packet Pick Up

 

Pre-registration packets will be available on Friday, February 24th from 4:00pm-8:00pm at the Joint Forces Training Base in Hangar #2. Only entrance for Friday, February 24th Packet Pick-Up is through the Lexington gate off of Katella Avenue. Packets can also be picked up on Race Day in Hangar #2. Registration begins on the day of the race at 6:30am. All Triathlon participants must be present with I.D. for USAT verification.

 

1K/5K/10K Participants: 

 

If you are unable to pick-up your packet, you may send a representative for you. Please fill out the waiver form and attach a photo copy of a valid form of identification. All individuals sponsors/groups/organizations/teams must adhere to the above. 


Jr. Triathlon and Reverse Triathlon Participants: 

This waiver does not apply to you. According to U.S.A.T. rules - Triathlon athletes must be present to pick up their packet and present a valid form of identification when picking up their packet. Jr. Triathletes should have guardian present to sign waiver form.

Packet Pick-Up Entrance - Friday, February 24th

Only entrance for Friday, February 24th Packet Pick-Up is through the Lexington gate off of Katella Avenue. 

Race Day Entrances- Saturday, February 25th

Parking is available on Race Day Saturday, February 25h for all participants and spectators on the Joint Forces Training Base. Please arrive early to your race in order to enter the Base, park and register. It is recommended to arrive at least one hour early for 1K/5K/10K events and at least one and half hour early for the Triathlon events.  In order to enter the Base, all adults must have a Driver’s License, Identification Card or Passport IN THEIR HAND to show military personnel. PLEASE HAVE YOUR I.D. INSIDE YOUR CAR AND READY TO PRESENT TO MILITARY PERSONNEL.  No pets allowed on site. ENTRANCES OPEN AT BOTH LEXINGTON AND ORANGEWOOD GATES. Reverse Triathlon
The Reverse Triathlon distances are 3.7 mile run, 13.1 mile bike, and 200 meter pool swim.  Due to the popularity of the event, a second wave has been added with start times depending on age group or category (see event schedule). Special optional categories include Athena (Women 150 lbs.+), Clydesdale (Men 200 lbs.+) and Challenged Athletes Division with event start at the 2nd wave. All Triathlon participants must attend the mandatory meeting prior to event wave start. Triathlon participants should bring their own swim cap. Minimum age limit for the Reverse Triathlon is 12 years old. All triathletes should have a USAT membership or one day license. Click here for Annual Membership/One Day License application.

Mental Preparation for Triathlon

Junior Reverse Triathlon
9-13 years: .5 mile Run | 1.2 mile Bike | 50 meter Swim
7-8 years: .5 mile Run | .6 mile Bike | 50 meter Swim
*All Junior Reverse Triathlon events are non-competitive. Finishers will receive a finisher medal.
Note: Youth with strong triathlete skills are encouraged to participate in the 10:00 a.m. Reverse Triathlon Race (1st Wave) and be eligible for age division awards.
Jr. Triathlon participants - Save the date for the mandatory meeting: February 10 from 6-8pm or February 11 from 2-4pm at the Community Center located at 10911 Oak Street in Los Alamitos. If you register after these dates, please email acocca@ci.los-alamitos.ca.us for instructions.

Course Maps
The course is located on the Joint Forces Training Base runways. Helicopters, planes and military vehicles will line portions of the course. Separate 100% flat courses. Run next to strawberry fields and 3 golf courses. The Reverse Triathlon includes (2 Waves): 3.7 Mile Run, 13.1 Mile Bike, and 200 Meter Pool Swim at the USA Water Polo National Aquatic Center on the Joint Forces Training Base. Strollers are allowed in the 5K/10K, but we request that you line up behind those participants without strollers at the Start Line.

Awards

Awards for top three male and female finishers of 5K Run/Walk, 10K Run/Skate/Wheel, and Reverse Triathlon will be presented at the event. Age Division awards will be available at the Awards Pick Up Tent next to the stage for the top athletes in male and female age divisions: (Minimum age for Reverse Triathlon 12 yrs.) 10 & Under; 11-12; 13-14; 15-18; 19-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 50-59; 60-64; 65-69; 70-74; 75-79; 80-84; 85+; Male and Female, Co-ed Relays, Athena, Clydesdale and Challenged Athletes Division in Reverse Triathlon.
